The Certificate in Responding to Substance Misuse is largely aimed at
those who work directly and regularly with users, which is therefore an excellent training for
professionals with a substance misuse function or those who would like to pursue a career
as such.
This course in particular is widely used to support such professionals in achieving their DANOS
competences, also providing comprehensive 'underpinning knowledge' for the (SVQ) NVQ Level 3 Health
and Social Care. This includes drugs workers, counsellors, outreach workers, volunteers, nurses,
social workers, police and prison officers.

- the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards
- specify the standards of performance
that people in the drugs and alcohol field should be working
to. They also describe the knowledge and skills workers
need in order to perform to the required standard.
