Models of Learning
We currently offer two certificate programmes, accredited as follows:

   Certificate in Drugs Awareness (Level 2)
   Certificate in Responding to Substance Misuse (Level 3)

Experienced tutors give support throughout these programmes and ensure continual assessment of workbook assignments. However, the nature of that support differs depending on the chosen model of learning.

Correspondence Learning:

Correspondence learning is available nationwide and is the most flexible way, as you can conveniently study at your own pace, where and when you want. Communications with the tutor take place by using mail, email, fax or telephone. You send your workbook assignments in and the tutor checks your work. The tutor is also available for any questions you may have. The final examination will be arranged at a mutually convenient time and place.

All-inclusive charges: Level 2 is £249 and Level 3 is £299.

Distance Learning:
Distance learning is only available to groups in some geographical areas and includes some face-to-face tutor contact. Your work and the tutor's feedback are normally exchanged in arranged face-to-face sessions, making the support more personal. A tutor is also available in-between sessions for any questions you may have (telephone, email, fax). At the last session, the final examination takes place.

All-inclusive charges: Level 2 is £279 and Level 3 is £349.

Tutorial Groups:
Tutorial group arrangements (in some geographical areas) offer extra support, which could be suitable for special groups - sometimes as part of a wider training programme. It also allows adding to the programme, while still achieving its overall objectives and results.

The fees will normally comprise of a group charge for the tutorial training plus an additional charge per student. Based on your specific requirements, a tailor made quote can be provided.
Outline of the Learning Process:
The learning process begins when you receive the course pack, which includes everything you need to know about the programme (your course book and workbook(s))
Self-assessments and activities in the workbooks help you develop knowledge and understanding
Experienced tutors mark the assignments you send in and give feedback, supporting you throughout as described above
You can contact the tutor by mail, email, fax or telephone
After you have completed the coursework to a satisfactory standard, a final multiple-choice examination determines if sufficient knowledge is retained

On average, each course takes 3-4 months to complete, but tutor support is normally available up to a year after commencement

DANOS - the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards - specify the standards of performance that people in the drugs and alcohol field should be working to. They also describe the knowledge and skills workers need in order to perform to the required standard.
