The following programmes are nationally accredited by the Awarding Body Ascentis, formerly called OCNW, recognised by the Department for Education and Skills and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority to provide awards to the National Qualifications Framework.
The accreditation panel have deemed that these programmes are accredited at the following levels: Each certificate programme comprises:
- Course book, containing the necessary information for learning
- Activities and self-assessment workbook for continual assessment
- Final examination including final assessment
- Certificate following successful completion
Each module contains learning outcomes, which can be attained by learners by the end of the module. To reinforce learning and attainment, self-assessment tasks and activities are set which learners complete in the workbook.
In order to ensure that the criteria for OCNW levels are satisfied, activities and self-assessment tasks contain sufficient levels of rigour and demand to enable learners to demonstrate the skills of understanding and evaluation as well as knowledge. This is particularly important when it is borne in mind that equivalence to National Framework levels are as follows:
- Entry: National Curriculum Levels 1-3, in appropriate form for post-16 Students
- Level 1: GCSE grades D-G, GNVQ Foundation, NVQ Level 1
- Level 2: GCSE grades A-C, GNVQ Intermediate, BTEC First Diploma, NVQ Level 2
- Level 3: A/AS Level, GNVQ Advanced, BTEC National Diploma, NVQ Level 3
