Drugs Awareness Training Course

The ASET Certificate in Drugs Awareness training course by People in Vision is accredited at Level 2. This course is designed to give the student a good grounding in the area of drug use and misuse.

It will provide the student with a working knowledge of the various substances (including effects, consequences and current legislation) and related issues, such as social effects, health issues and interventions. Both legal and illegal substances are included.

Certificate in Drugs Awareness - Level 2
Drugs Awareness Training:
The Certificate in Drugs Awareness is designed to suit people who aim to have a general awareness of the various drugs issues, enabling them to recognise signs and symptoms of drug use and to know about agencies, issues in society and how to provide initial support.

Learning Approach / Cost:
Choice of three formats:

Drugs awareness training: correspondence learning: £249 per student
Drugs awareness training: distance learning in groups with a local tutor: £279 per student
Drugs awareness training: group tutorials: Price dependent on requirements

Pricing:
All prices are for the full certificate programme, including all course materials, registration with ASET, tutor support, examination and certification after satisfactory completion. Prices may be subject to change. For more information on these learning models click here.

Support:
Text based programme, activities and self-assessment workbooks, with tutor support throughout. Continual assessment is based on workbook assignments and final examination. Read more.

Who Benefits:
The Certificate in Drugs Awareness is largely aimed at those who may not have a specific substance misuse function but who still need to achieve a good grounding in general drugs awareness because of possible contacts with users, enabling them to provide an initial response.

This may benefit a range of people, such as generic social and health professionals, youth workers, community groups, parents, carers and volunteers. This course may also aid teachers, police officers, prison officers, support staff within drugs agencies and all those seeking to understand and apply the principles of drug awareness training. However, for those with a specific substance misuse function our Level 3 programme may be more appropriate.

Introduction to Drug Use; Depressants:
The History of Drug Use. Drug Terms Used. The Main Drug Laws. Broad Drug Categories. Depressants - Alcohol, Heroin, Methadone, GHB
Stimulants; Hallucinogens; Tranquillisers:
Stimulants - Caffeine, Amphetamines, Cocaine & Crack, Ecstasy. Hallucinogens - Magic Mushrooms, LSD. Tranquillisers - Benzodiazepines, including Rohypnol
More Substances:
More substances - Cannabis, Tobacco, Ketamine, Chocolate, Anabolic Steroids, Poppers (Nitrites), Solvents (Volatile Substances)
Drug Use; Various Interventions:
Drug Use in Society. Cycle of Change (Prochaska & Di Clemente). Reducing Drug Use. Treatment Interventions. Some National Organisations

DANOS Standards:
The Certificate in Drugs Awareness has been mapped to the DANOS standards. It helps people to develop their knowledge, skills and competence in the following DANOS units: AA1, AA3, AA4, AB2, AB5, AC1, AD1, BD3.

Further Development:
The Certificate in Responding to Substance Misuse (Level 3) is an invaluable learning programme for people who specialise professionally or have a particular interest in the drugs field. People in Vision also offer some Drugs Seminars and Workshops.

DANOS - the Drugs and Alcohol National Occupational Standards - specify the standards of performance that people in the drugs and alcohol field should be working to. They also describe the knowledge and skills workers need in order to perform to the required standard.
